SCAM ALERT - Target, Doctors Cumberland/York Co., ME

patch and badge 112216

Incident Date:             July 10, 2018

Incident Time:             Ongoing

Incident Location:      Cumberland/York County Areas

Release Date:              July 10, 2018

Release Time:             12:30 PM

Incident Synopsis:

Persons unknown are targeting Doctor’s in the Cumberland and York  County area, calling and telling them that they are in violation of not complying with a Grand Jury summons. In these cases, legitimate names of Sheriff Office employees were used and the number given to call back had an actual recording of the Sheriff’s Office automated greeting (it appears the Sheriff's Office phone recording was re-recorded by the scammers).

At this time, we are not aware of any victim being scammed out of money or property.

The use of the Grand Jury as a threat has been used over the last couple of years around the Country. No Law Enforcement Agency would ask or except monies should a person be in violation, if a person was in violation they would be brought before a Judge who would make an official determination.

Should anyone ever have any concerns after receiving calls like this, they should hang up and call the local Law Enforcement Agency.
