Release Time:           8:00 pm

Incident Synopsis:

On 06-10-2018 The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office along with the Casco Fire Department responded to the above area for a reported single motorcycle into some trees. Casco Rescue attempted but was unable to revive the lone male operator.

Preliminary investigation details:

The deceased is 66 year old Gaetan Charest of Quebec Canada. Charest was operating his 2018 Harley Electra Glide with a group of other riders. They were headed east on Route 11 with him being the last motorcycle in the group. Charest went off the road in a curve and ended up in a wooded area which at first the other riders did not know. Upon discovering that he was not with them they doubled back and were alerted to where he had crashed by an area homeowner. Information provided by the group along with details gathered from the scene suggests that Charest may have had a medical event causing him to lose control of his motorcycle.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors. The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team and the Criminal Investigation Division are continuing the investigation.
