Incident Synopsis:        Public Notification of Discharge of Firearms pursuant to Town Of Standish Code

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department is notifying the Public at Large of an amendment to the Town of Standish Code regarding:

DISCHARGE OF FIREARMS

The Town of Standish adopted Code regarding Discharge of Firearms. Specifically noted as the Town of Standish Property located on Boundary Road in the Town of Standish. This Code PROHIBITS the discharge of Firearms on this property as of May 8th, 2018.

The Town of Standish property/pit located on Boundary Road has been a regular spot for Sportsman, Gun enthusiasts and Recreational Shooters for many years. Due to increased residential dwellings constructed in the area, noise complaints and overall Public Safety the Town adopted this ordinance.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and Maine Warden Service will be monitoring the area for shooting activity as well as responding to Public complaints of the shooting or trespassing on the property.

Enforcement of the Code will be through education, signage to be placed by the Town of Standish and if warranted in the future, the issuance of Summons for Violation of the Code and or trespassing.

The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office asks for the Public’s cooperation in assuring the Land Owner Rights are respected, namely the Town of Standish and that those interested in shooting sports contact Local Rod and Gun Clubs for Safe and approved locations to sport shoot.
